Development History

THROUGH THE BAMBOO was developed with funds by the OAC’s TCR/RGTC program, with referrals from Young Peoples’ Theatre, The Toronto Fringe Festival, Cahoots Theatre, fu-GEN Theatre and Theatre Direct. It had a public reading at San Francisco’s Bindlestiff Studios in 2011 and subsequent readings hosted by Kapisanan Philippine Centre for Arts and Culture and Carlos Bulosan Theatre. In 2017, THROUGH THE BAMBOO was workshopped with dramaturgy by Paula Wing, and had two public readings at Soulpepper Theatre as part of their Tiger Bamboo Festival. In 2018, the piece was workshopped again at Soulpepper’s Shen Series, with dramaturgy by Nina Lee Aquino. It was workshopped in February 2019 with the second year acting students from Humber College, and support from Marie Beath Badian.

Since 2018, Nina Lee Aquino has been the dramaturge for THROUGH THE BAMBOO.

Andrea and Byron thank the many actors and theatre artists that have been a part of the development process for THROUGH THE BAMBOO for their invaluable contributions.
